Along with Ravana, burn the effigy of Surpanakha too!

Ravana represents the negative aspect of personality among men

Although learned and knowledgeable, he met with his end in the hands of Shri Rama because he was an egoistic, selfish demon King who was not letting pious and enlightened saints or sages to perform yagyas and havans in the name of Gods – hence weakening the auspiciousness of Mother Earth. With demons dominating, Mother Earth and her children had started suffering a lot as Ravana treated humans like muck! Burning an effigy of Ravana reminds people that the end of negativity is evident so it is better to stick to positive qualities that brings about all round happiness and progress.

Surpanakha represents the negative aspect of personality among women

Having got the powers to mesmerise males, demon princess Surpanakha (sister of Ravana) used it to enjoy her life by ruining the character of males or other demons. She used her beauty to seduce males other than her husband. Being a wife and a mother too – did not make her mend her ways and she continued her flirtatious lifestyle with any male who caught her fancy. The insult of being turned down by handsome Prince Shri Rama made her go all wild with fury and she wanted to take revenge. She instigated her brother Ravana to harm/ kill/ abduct Shri Rama’s wife so as to teach him a lesson for turning her down! Such was her destructive nature…..that she brought down the entire clan of Ravana just because she could not quench her sensual thirst!

Therefore, along with burning the effigy of Ravana, we should also burn the effigy of Surpanaka so that the negativities that females suffer from also come to an end.
