Raanjhanaa Film Review
Well …the film had a very practical approach indeed!
Story in short:
The son of a small temple Purohit in Banaras sees a girl of a rich Muslim Professor (I think) when he was just 7 or 8 years old…and as seen in films, he thought that it was love at first sight and mentally he started ‘loving’ her and living for her alone. …created an illusionary world of his own…without the girl even coming to know about his existence!
Years pass and at the age of around 14-15 he confesses to her that he loves her…..does couple of filmy stunts – like about to slash his wrists etc. if she does not agree! She somewhat agrees (herself being 14 years old) only to find out that he was not a Muslim….like on her 1st meeting with him- she was just 14 huh…she slides her hand inside his shirt.... happens to touch the ‘sacred thread’ that Hindus wear! He had actually lied to her that he was a Muslim!
Anyway, her family comes to know and they send her away to her Aunt’s place…where she spends 8 years and then returns to her hometown. The hero – Dhanush – keeps his chastity…saves it only for her – although another Hindu girl was much interested in him…but his illusions were greater for him! The heroine (Sonam), in the meanwhile, falls in love with a ‘politically’ inclined fellow and wishes to marry him. The problem was that he was a Hindu as well.
She tells Dhanush that she is in love with someone else….and a heartbroken Dhanush then tries to help her out and convinces her parents to let her marry the man she loves. She lies at home and introduces her lover as a Muslim. When the marriage is about to take place, Dhanush spills the beans and tells everyone that she was getting married to a Hindu. Hell breaks lose and her lover is beaten publicly and unfortunately he dies.
Dhanush is guilty and follows the heroine everywhere to be able to help her out in every possible way!
She gets busy in canvassing to win the political seat..her lover had aspired for. Circumstances arise as such that the heroin gets a chance to get him (Dhanush) killed….and she jumps at it…she wanted to see him dead and moreover she was disliking his fame as a political leader that he was speedily achieving. Dhanush dies at the end and after his death the heroine comes to know that Dhanush knew of her plan to murder him. She feels guilty. End of story.
1.The modern world college students were canvassing for votes like some ‘jahil-ganwaars’ (illiterate, uncouth fools)…doing road shows and acting in the middle of roads etc.- I mean there can be so many more advanced ways to draw people towards their propaganda….but they were still stuck to age old ways of publicising!
2.A simpleton from Banaras – who himself confessed that he is a master in generating ‘fear factor’ in the minds of people …so that they listen to him….turns out to be smarter with a stronger personality to motivate people than any of the well educated city bred college students!!
3.An amazed Dhanush (upon seeing his fame that he acquired in just couple of days) also makes a comment like: there is much lack of leadership qualities in the city…where people are actually listening to a village bred simpleton!
4.Illusions can ruin an individual beyond repairs! All illusion generating sources should be abolished asap!
