Kadambari – Bengali Film Review

Kadambari – The Review:

Saw Bengali film ‘Kadombari’ today.

Based on the life of Kobi Guru.(Rabindranath Tagore)

The Director certainly has played the game deftly!

NO ‘LOCHA’ Scene – not a single one!!

Could not afford it actually.

Bengalis would have ‘Eaten Him Up Alive’!

He would have had to run for his life!

So Robi Thakur’s (RT hereinafter) sis-in-law (Natun Baudi) did not die because of Robi’s marriage.

She died because of her husband’s betrayal – he had been sleeping with the actress!

Amazing huh! RT wrote prose after prose & poetry after poetry  for a woman…who failed to win her hubby’s admiration or love!!

Love has been shown at its subtlest best! Too refined!…going by heresay – it is quite unbelievable.

But then it may be possible also – only very subtle and refined love (with hardly or zero carnal desires) can give rise to beautiful immortal creations or artworks!

On a serious Note::

Very sad to see the lifestyle of yesteryear ladies ! All they did was get ready and look good for their husbands or other male members…..so that they can get into some clandestine affair and enjoy life!!

Sad to see young girls wedded off to aged males! Kadambari looks barely 13 when she is wedded off to some 30 plus male! So basically her sex life must have started pretty early!!

Women are so jealous of each other – well but natural – their only time pass was to attract the males within the family! Outsider males were not allowed to meet with the ladies of the house.

The mothers were pretty non-motherly (lacking motherliness) I must say – they just left their children – probably one born every 9 months – to the maid servants!  Maybe because gradually they were breaking free (Thank God they were – else we would also have been rotting even today!) – they were getting educated and getting more exposure – which made them understand that they are not just some ‘baby producing sex machine’ but much more than that!
