Dear Zindagi -Film Review
Story::
- Kaira (Alia) feels abandoned by parents. She has had a neglected childhood.
- She is complex because of her childhood and hatred for her parents.
- She jumps from one affair to another, has sex with them, then breaks off for no good reason.
- She approaches a psychiatrist to help her get over her mental traumas.
- Shrink Khan (SRK) counsels her & she gradually opens up.
- She confesses that she sleeps with guys and knows that society calls such ‘sleeping around’ females as ‘Sluts’ .
- Shrink Khan suggests that when you buy a chair, you try out different chairs to find the comfort level. So it is okay to have sex with males otherwise how can you marry someone without knowing how is he on bed!
- Kaira feels completely healed by the magical words.
Take Home –
Females can happily ‘fuck around’ to their heart’s content….under the pretext that they are searching for a suitable life-partner of course.
Males can happily fuck around because females will themselves be willing.
Dumb & sex-starved middle aged beeps will wish that they were born in today’s era as it is such a wonderful society now …..that suggests open sex – anytime, every time (of course to find a suitable partner to marry and not as some sex-worker!)
Forthcoming filmy fathers will now say : Thahar jaa Simran, thahar jaa…pehele sex karke dekh toh leh ki Raj tere laiyak hai bhi ki nahi!
Good Points in the film:
People are reluctant to take their children to a psychiatrist because of fear of the society. Once the person gets the label that he/she visits a shrink, then rumours spread like wild fire about him/her and people start calling them mad! Indians are more interested to have a clean reputation for the outsiders…even if they might be dying inside because of family conflicts and misunderstandings!
Film points out that responsible adults should be properly ready for childbirth and not just bring a child without planning. In case of Kaira, her parents were not financially steady, the reason they had to leave her with her grandparents. Later when she was 7 years old, her parents come back from abroad and she begins to live with them. They did everything for her good education etc. – like sending her to New York for studying Cinematography but no matter what they did, she could not forgive them for abandoning her when she was a child. She grew up to be a complex personality. Childhood traumas, feeling unloved – leaves an indelible scar in the human mind.
Dream Interpretation-
She dreams that she is in a building under construction and she falls in a puddle and feels very dirty in it. When she opens her eyes, she sees married women laughing at her. Her camera hanging above her.
Meaning – She is the soul and the building is her human body that is under construction (like we are growing…under construction). She falls because she is not careful enough – having reckless sex with random lovers – she feels dirty. Married women laugh at her – because – even they have sex but not recklessly like her and after marriage – which makes them superior to her. The camera hanging above her means that everything is recorded…..
